Free time tracking Chrome extension
Start a timer on the task you already have open. One click, inside 100+ tools your team uses every day.
One click
Track time where the work happens
A start button appears on every task, issue and ticket. Click it and you are tracking.
The description, the project and the tags come from the page, so there is nothing to type.
Hours get logged while the work is happening, instead of being reconstructed on Friday afternoon.
No cleanup
Entries that are right the first time
Wrong project, or a title you would rather reword? Change it on the spot, without leaving the page.
Every entry arrives with a project and a client already on it, ready to report on and ready to bill.
Nobody spends the last day of the month working out who each hour belonged to.
Toolbar timer
One timer for the whole day
Calls, meetings and all the work that never had a task page: start those from the toolbar.
Today's hours and this week's hours are always in view, with your recent work one click from starting again.
100+ tools
It already works with your stack
Jira, GitHub, Asana, Trello, Notion, ClickUp and a hundred more. Issue trackers, project boards, help desks, CRMs, docs, calendars and inboxes.
You pick the tools your team uses. It runs nowhere else.
Reports and invoices
The hours end up in Timen
Every entry is an ordinary Timen entry: in your timer, on your reports, on your invoices, and visible to your team. Nothing to export and nothing to reconcile.
Start tracking in the tab you already have open
Add the extension, switch on the tools your team uses, and the hours arrive in Timen ready to bill.
Frequently asked questions
-
Yes. The extension is free and so is Timen, for your whole team.
-
Chrome, and Chromium browsers like Microsoft Edge. There is no Firefox or Safari build yet.
-
Over a hundred, including Jira, GitHub, GitLab, Asana, Trello, Notion, ClickUp, Basecamp, Todoist, Zendesk, Wrike and Teamwork. The full list is searchable inside the extension, and you switch on the ones your team uses.
-
Yes, and creating one is free. The extension starts timers in your Timen account, so your hours sit alongside everything else your team tracks.
-
No. It installs with permission for Timen's own domain and nothing else. Every tool in the list is off until you switch it on, and Chrome asks you to approve that specific site. On a site you have not turned on, the extension does not run, does not read the page and does not know you are there.
-
The title of the task, issue, card or document you are looking at, and where the tool shows them, a project or client name and any labels. That becomes the description and attributes of the time entry, and only once you start the timer.
-
Yes. An editor opens next to the button as soon as the timer starts, so you can rewrite the description, switch the project, add or remove tags and mark the entry billable without leaving the page. You can also edit it later from Timen like any other entry.
-
Ctrl+Shift+E starts and stops the timer without opening the popup. It picks up your most recent entry, so continuing yesterday's work is one keystroke.
-
Yes. Add your own address under Custom domains in the extension's settings and point it at the matching integration. A self-hosted GitLab, Jira or Redmine then behaves the same as the hosted one.
-
On your own device, in the browser's extension storage: your session, a cached copy of your projects, clients and tags, the running entry and your settings. Signing out clears it and uninstalling removes it.
-
Yes. An entry started from the extension is an ordinary Timen entry, so it appears in your timer and calendar, counts towards your reports, and can be invoiced like hours tracked anywhere else.
